It is not often that one gets to play junior expeditionary member to somewhere like I went to. It was extremely overwhelming and incredible. Awe-inspiring. I haven't stopped writing since I've gotten back and there may be a book sitting in Gilded Page about the place. Soon. Wait awhile, you avid biblophiles.

I've ordered the play programs. The time is close at hand. I have a hundredfold the nervousness that I have ever had as a performer for this play I've created, from concept to stage. I cannot wait for opening night, and yet I dread it at the same time. I feel as if I'm always holding my breath, and that I will not release it fully until the curtain falls on the closing night, and the last audience member has left the theater.
If I forget something between now and then, just know my head is not here and my thoughts are a hundred places at once.

Attentions are drawn ever outward - it is not just the issues of the Great Road, even those remaining, but the world beyond. Knowing what lies in any direction we choose, and the step beyond, and wondering what all of that will mean for us. There is so much out there that it's easy to forget what's right next to us. This city is not understood by any means. This city is not free of problems by any means. Some time taken to address those will make all of us far more capable moving forward.

I find that of all things there are in the world, nothing makes me feel more powerless than when faced with the prospect of disease. Of seeing a human being withering away in front of me and being helpless to do anything except provide comfort. I could not do what Juniper has done. I could not do what the physicians of this city do. Such work is entirely beyond me.

So I have been training again, primarily late at night. There has been so much to do that once I have finished work I have little time for others as previously mentioned in a writing, so I wait until everyone is asleep and then I slip off to Navegant's training grounds for some much needed practice. So far, Count Turo has not seemed to mind the noise, or he is being courteous and pretending he doesn't hear me clanging around.

I'm real glad me and Kenna got a chance to just chat. Catching up with my Partner is one of my favorite things to do. Even when I'm having to threaten to kick her arse for something or the other.

Relationship Note on Emrys
When I was a young Apprentice Whisper, I was surrounded by some of the greatest beauties as fellow Apprentices. As is the case with many young girls, I was ever conscious of my appearance, desiring the beauty, attention, and acclaim of those around me. The moments not consumed with such thoughts were spent in study under the ever astute and watchful eye of Whisper Emrys, who undertook with great diligence the education of the lot of us.
During one such afternoon spent learning about the relationships between the Houses of the Oathlands with those of the Crownlands, I interrupted to ask, plaintively, "Emrys, do you think I'm as pretty as the other Apprentices?" To this day, I'm not quite sure what possessed me to ask such a question of Emrys of all people, for he was and is well-known for an adherence to giving honest criticism no matter how tender one's feelings might be.
I remember he closed the book he was reading from, narrowed his eyes, and grasped my chin in his hand. He turned my face to one side and then turned it to the other, scrutinizing my visage with his cool gaze. Finally, after what seemed an interminable amount of time, Emrys released my chin and said dismissively, "No, you are not, but you're clever and that will last a good deal longer."

When the call for aid goes out it amazes me how many have answered. The Oathlands finds ain't from every quarter when the need arises and I can not be more proud for the allies we have cultivated. I am glad to work with every one of these honorable members of the Compact.

I am not at all sure what is going on, but it seems there is sickness from the ship that was in peril in the harbour. I am no healer, so I thought it best to stay well away from all the goings on there, so that I am not slowing down the healers, and also so that I do not get sick as well.
I hope that is enough help. I could perhaps send food - or something. Would that help at all?

I was sorry that I could not attend the first of Vellichor's renewals, organised by cousin Sparte. I need to try and make sure that I attend the next. I truly approve of the concept that he has not only put forward, but also taken forward into practice. If you like reading and like book, I encourage you seek him out and ask him what it is all about.
