Relationship Note on Bianca

I find the ends are often penned first, and solved before they even begin, where last words are staged and blocked with foreknowledge. The truest endings for me are somewhere in the middle.

The Gilded Page has been fortunate enough to receive a copy of what I can only imagine is the next installment, "The Baron and the Salacious Breadcrumb, Part I". I can honestly say I have never been more aroused by pastry in my life. Author, who are you! I must know!

The chill reaches into my bones and I find myself adding an extra blanket at night to keep the warmth between the sheets. My mother's Southern blood does not help during these times. At least, I can add extra layers to protect myself. Hopefully this year I will avoid any fevers or colds.

The kids have taken to trying to 'ambush' me about the villa. Jumping out from behind curtains, or even rolling out from under my bed to swat at me with their wooden swords. I know I should probably stop this...after all, an suspecting lord or lady might fall prey to their games but I can't find the heart to stop their war games.

Princess Freja would have been proud.

I did not expect to be back in Arx, writing again for Vellichor's journals.

Lady Mikani has given birth to twin baby girls, Lady Emma and Lady Arcadia. It is an indescribable feeling to hold Nakoa and watch the girls sleep in their cradles, or in the arms of their mother or Lady Zoey. Our family, Master Jules and Mistress Svana have been very supportive, and I am truly grateful.

So many people strove to bring us back. Thank you. It is because of you that I remain in the Dream to love and be loved by my family, bearing witness to the miracle of new life.

I told you I saw a sharkenoid! It was hideous.

Almost as hideous and Porter's Beard. I have never been so glad you can't grow facial hair.

Satisfaction. Whether reading for entertainment or education, reaching the end of a story always serves a purpose even if the storyteller wasn't up to the task of telling it.

Being a mother is hard. Now that we have little Dashiell, he's sleeping a lot, pooping a lot, eating a lot, and burping a lot. I think he's sheer perfection, but isn't that how all mothers are supposed to think?

Is it weird, that I want another one so soon? This time hopefully, the gods will give us a girl.

While I'm sure there will be someone to rush in with their finger raised and a "Well, actually" on their punchable face? I think one of the things to shake the spirit of a person the most is being with someone else when they have their last moment.

I have been thinking about OMEGA a lot lately. Those last moments in each others presence still resonates with me today. It probably will until my own last moment. In one instant we were adversaries and in the next something quite the opposite. That very brief sense of camaraderie taught me a great deal about compassion, I'd like to think.

You will be remembered until my own last moments.

I am pleased to say that I may have some additional role in helping create a strong presence for House Pravus in our new ward in Arx! I do not want to speak too soon but I hope that everyone will enjoy fine entertainment in the year to come!

Now that the poetry reading on Freedom has passed, I am reproducing the lyrics of my ballad here in the whites, so it may spread wide. The poem will also be committed to a book soon so that it can be preserved, or, as well as things can be preserved in this world of Ever Change.

May we celebrate! Freedom, love, and the blessings of a new year!

Battle Hymn of the Chain Breakers

We sing the song of the City of Chains
Safe harbor for slavers and tyrants,
But we sing the song for the breakers of chains,
Who stood against slavers, defiant.

In daylight and under the heat of the sun,
The Chainbreakers came for the slavers.
The Sons of the Centipede routed and smashed,
By soldiers whose faith never wavered.

But lo, for the slaves, paralyzed with their fright
Had learned to be helpless and scared.
For physical freedom alone won’t suffice
When the soul is so deeply impaired.

The chainbreakers hoped that the slaves would be freed
But their spirits were crushed by their masters
And lo the revenge of the City of Chains
Would incite such battles thereafter.

We sing the song of the City of Chains
Safe harbor for slavers and tyrants,
But we sing the song for the breakers of chains,
Who stood against slavers, defiant.

A hundred longships, and seven-thousand men,
They came in the daylight by water
Their gold and black banners awave in the wind
They used their slaves only as fodder.

They came to recapture the slaves they had lost
And punish those who fought for freedom
But bondage and suff’ring is fate worse than death
And Pravus rose up to defeat them

For Setarco, for Pravus, and for the Archduchess!
The cries of the chainbreakers rang,
And to the melee, the battle was joined,
To victory, now, they all sang-

As we sing the song of the City of Chains
Safe harbor for slavers and tyrants,
But we sing the song for the breakers of chains,
Who stood against slavers, defiant.

A sorcerer stood, with thirteen men slaved,
With yokes and chains tight round their throats,
And summoning horror, he slaughtered those slaves,
Reciting a terrible rote,

The magic called forth from the blackened spilled blood
Ignited a horrible fire
The legions of Pravus stayed bold in the fight
As the battlefield became a pyre

The Princess Celeste called tactical true
Sir Elio held back the flames,
Lady Gabriella, and her hungry blade
Then cleaved the dark wizard in twain.

We sing the song of the City of Chains
Safe harbor for slavers and tyrants,
But we sing the song for the breakers of chains,
Who stood against slavers, defiant.

Dark magics defeated the battle was won,
The slavers all driven and slain
Though casualties many did pay the price
For those who would dare cleave the chain

But still we rejoice, for those who were freed
Their bodies and souls liberated
Can guide their own fates, can make their own lives,
Instead of their futures dictated.

The freedom to choose is a powerful gift
And life so worth living when free!
And so we cheer - Belladonna is here!
To grant us that fine liberty!

We sing the song of the City of Chains
Safe harbor for slavers and tyrants,
But we sing the song for the breakers of chains,
Who stood against slavers, defiant.

An answer:

The ending of a story is the beginning of the next. Even in the worst of times, in those moments when we believe that we have taken our last step, there is always another one waiting for us.

Because my family finds it so amusing, and it's worth putting in a white journal to embarrass them later, my kids learned the hard way not to defy mommy's order to have their food verified before they eat it.

I caught them eating cookies which were given to them without their asking me first or having them poison tasted first. I was pissed at their lapse in safety precautions but they're just toddlers so it's my fault for not teaching them better. After I told them to spit it out, my son looked me in the eye and defiantly took another bite. I grounded them for sassing back.

So to make it up to them, I offered them some of their favorite strawberry jammy dodgers. Which I had laced with cayenne pepper.

They will never go without poison tasting anything first ever again.

Mommy loves you but she's a devious bastard.
