Four weeks since I arrived in Arx, and things are only getting stranger. A cousin lies dead in a welter of blood; I'd not had the chance to meet him, and now I never will. I've been faced with evidence of children's tales made real, and I can only suspect that the nightmares are there along with the dreams. Perhaps being on land will prevent my childhood nightmares from coming true along with the rest.

Regardless of the recent furore over Disciples and the Faith, it's time to catch up on what I have missed. Three new deities were added while I was beyond the reach of the Faith, and I really should know more than that.

Wait, did I just see an idea that the Faith should be the one bending to accept the spirits and it would be better for that?

I am forever impressed at how scholars record things without snapping their quills.

I thought about commenting again about the argument that has resurfaced in response to the decree of the Dominus... and I've decided that I've already said enough on this matter.

Today I visit the Temple of Jayus. It should be interesting to see what it looks like after the annual destruction.

Relationship Note on Fredrik

Once more we are speaking of the decision made by the Dominus, when there are far more controversial issues we could be discussing. For example, has anyone else noticed that Lord Fredrik puts the subject and who it's from on the actual journal entry he submits rather than on the missive that is sent to the Archives???

We know who it's from Lord RedTyde! I can't believe more people aren't up in arms about this hot button issue.

Firstly, that is a misconception. Most Oathlanders acknowledge the Thirteenth as a god. Those that do not? No, I don't ostracize them for that.

Secondly, no, I do not think the Faith and shamanism need to be separate. I DO think that if you want the respect and dignity attached to the title of Disciple, you need to choose. As many have said before me, you don't need to be a Mercy to be a healer. I wasn't a Mercy when I was a healer. You don't need to be a Scholar to read and learn and share knowledge.

I'm a Godsworn. I gave up everything to be a Godsworn. My family, any future of a family, anything that might come between myself and my gods. Don't think it's unfair of me to expect others to give something up too, if they want to call themselves representatives of the Faith.

I don't care what you practice. I'll protect your caravan. I'll send silver to feed your hungry children. I'll watch your roads for brigands. Stop acting like we're persecuting you because we are picky about who we give titles to. Everyone else is. Mostly.

I see that we're again discussing the Dominus' proclamation. I remain mildly confused about the uproar. None of this should have ever been a surprise. I wouldn't promote someone who had sworn an oath of fealty to house Redrain (no offense to the Redrains) as a Voice to House Laurent. Why would the Faith want people working for them or representing them that... also fundamentally was representing something the Faith does not uphold or believe in?

Since must answer directly, I will:

If a Mercy believes in the Gods with all their heart and follows their teachings, but also walks with the Spirits, how does that make them not a representative of Faith? Instead is proof that Faith exists /more/ than a normal every day person does because person /knows/ Spirits exist. Also /knows/ Gods exist. Is person who /should/ be representing Faith.

Proves Faith is good.

Religion is belief. Belief in a thing without proof. Belief in ideals.

You put forth disengenuous question. Thinking these two Religions must be separate.

Dreamer dream up spirits just as dreamer dream up you and I.

Would I want person who believed in my 'religion' representing it?

Yes.

Because they /believe/ and the worship faithfully.

I am told many in Oathlands do not worship the 13th, do you ostracize Oathlanders too?

I would like to thank everyone who joined Margret and me last night for our wedding reception. It meant so much to all of us to have so many friends and family there. Margret is an exceptional event planner -- she did it all, and all I had to do was attend, which suits me perfectly. It was wonderful to see the very talented Bliss Whisper exhibiting her talent on the ice, as well.

I am very happy to be a part of House Greenmarch, who have all been so welcoming to me; Marquessa Simone and Lady Monique in particular who have brought me into the fold from the start and made me feel part of the family, and Marquis Marius who has assisted me with learning about the House and its traditions. I look forward to what the future may bring.

I am writing from bed. The good news is that I've been bathed multiple times. The bad news is that my legs don't quite work right yet.

I've been forcing Keso to bring me copies of Whites to keep me entertained, because not being able to walk is _boring_. I saw that people are still talking about the Dominus's decree! Something about "it's like if a courtier couldn't become a Whisper"?

Except, like. Most courtiers don't become Whispers? Whispers are the most elite of courtiers and there are rules for who can become Whispers?

Mercies are healers that _serve and represent the Faith_. Scholars are scholars that _serve and represent the Faith_. You can be a healer without being a Mercy. You can be a scholar without being a Scholar. Yes, little s, big S, no, Keso, I don't think that's confusing -- ARE YOU WRITING THAT PART DOWN would you stop it

Anyways, most of the Faithful aren't disciples. Not being a disciple does not mean that you can't help people or lead a faithful life or follow the gods. So.

On the topic of misunderstandings regarding the Dominus' decree.

Those of you who are of the Faith and always have been you need to realize something in relation to those that have been barred from service within church institutions. The Church is the public welfare and service throughout the realm. Mercies are prized. Scholars are honored. Lacking the ability to serve in these roles is like a courtier who can never be a Whisper. They -can- do many things but being a Whisper makes things infinitely easier to succeed in being a courtier.

It is perfectly understandable that commoners and especially prodigals see this as a separation an inability to pursue their vocational aspirations and be a part of the Compact. They are wrong but such is the duty of nobility to guide them to the truth and not berate them their misconceptions. In addition, should any disaffected spirit believers be reading this, know that Vala Khanne Halfshav and Redrain are in the works to address those who are unwilling to renounce the faith of their birth or the beliefs of their heart. To not rush to renounce simply so you can have title and position. Renunciation is like an oath and failure to uphold your word is oathbreaking. If you ever lapse into the belief of the spirits you are a liar and worse off than you were before. Think carefully on your decisions.

Mercies are healers.

Scholars are scholars.

We are all learning ways of Gods.

Nobody knows all things.

Do not see how learning things is bad. Why we who also know the Spirits should not be allowed to bring our knowledge, our skills, our faith, to the Faith.

We swore Oath. We Honor and follow the Gods.

Or at least some of us did. Those who wish be Mercy or Scholar of Vellichor should no be cast aside as unwelcome.

Faith supposed to be welcoming.

This opposite.

Relationship Note on Cleo

With all respect, mistress Cleo, you seem to be mistaken about what, exactly, the Dominus' proclamation entailed.

His words did not separate us. We are separated by the fact of your choice to follow a philosophy outside of the Faith. That is your choice and your right. But in doing so, you choose to be different. Separate. If you perceive this to be negative, that is your choice. No where in his proclamation did he call for those who practice shamanism to be scorned or persecuted or disrespected.

As for never being a Scholar or Mercy, you can be, if you choose to embrace the Faith alone. These are positions within the hierarchy of the Faith. These are people who represent the worship of those who believe, wholly, in the gods of the Pantheon. This in no way prohibits anyone from learning, researching or teaching others. Sharing knowledge or being an educated, learned person. It simply means that they cannot hold a title of one who is dedicated to Vellichor. It does not mean you cannot heal. Or be known as a healer. To help and pursue a goal of mending bodies and fighting plague. It simply means you cannot hold the title of Mercy, one who embodies the healing flame of Lagoma.

That is the truth.

As prodigal, I have not always felt most welcomed by Compact.

Some people good and friendly. Much curious.

Some people curious for reasons I do not agree with.

This though... this decision you have made to separate us and make us different? That is the opposite of bringing us together. That is saying: You are not worthy of us.

I am glad to be a Prodigal.

I am glad to be of Southlands now with friends and loved ones.

I am not glad I will never be a Scholar, or a Mercy. That my knowledge is somehow not good, my healing is somehow not good, because I also believe in the sun coming up. The seasons changing. Fire being hot.

All of these things are as true as the Spirits are.

As true as the Gods.

Willful ignorance is tool of greatest enemies.

Is sad this Compact can no be as welcoming of those who swear oaths as say.

She'll hate reading this, but if someone asked me to point out one of the most inspiring and truly exceptional people in all of Arx, Dame Allenatore would be one of my immediate choices. Integrity, humility, intelligence, bravery and optimism are all facets that make up this rather remarkable knight, and her devotion to Petrichor and His domain is to be admired. Keeping busy has allowed time to fly by and I cannot wait until it is this time next week! I attended a very interesting tea party--Velenosans always seem to put their own spin on things and this was no different! It was quite lovely and I'm pretty sure I still might be drunk from that special tea! It was quite fun seeing a very different group of people come together and enjoy themselves, even if the last secret of the night ended up being that you should probably not sit on any of the furniture there ever. Ever. EVER!

Went to a fun duel that ended in a snowball fight where my beloved valiantly sacrificed his face to keep me safe from an onslaught! Don't worry, he's fine! But it was very heroic of him!

Last night was the reception for Alessandro and Margret, two people that my heart soared for when the engagement was announced and for whom it just about bursts every time I see them together. Their wedding was a beautiful, private affair and the reception was amazingly lovely! There was mullled wine, beautiful decorations and wonderful company! I wish we could have stayed longer, but it was so nice to see Lord Alessandro and Lady Margret so happy together amongst their friends and family. And the king! Who I keep running into. I do hope his guards recovered well after watching him ice skate.

Which, if anyone is ever challenged to an ice skating competition, I HIGHLY recommend Bliss Whisper stand as your champion. Basically in all things!

Time is not going fast enough!
