The Inconvienant Truth

Posted by Margot on 10/31/17

Amid all this talk of abolition, among all this talk of freedom and thralls and change there have been many things said and promised and accused. It is lovely talk and ideology but in it I have not once, in all of it, not a single time heard any of these talkers speak about the thralls themselves as actual people. No they speak of them only as Thralls as an idea, a vaguery, a concept to shake their fists at either because their existence is contrary to the world view of the speaker or because it is the popular opinion de jour for one to voice and the path of least resistance to acquiring social capital.

I live in a house with these people. They care for me, and my child, they make my food, they are the ones I trust with personal well being. Yes, they all erred, they committed small crimes or made great errors, I know each of them, and they each have been provided an opportunity to atone for those. They have names; Liliana, Oliver, Marki, Damon, Bartholm, Hope, Cynthi, Rider... They have histories and stories and families and futures.

Vellichor teaches us that we must see what is, not what we want to be. That we must open our mind without the clutter of emotion, and seek to understand. Part of that understanding is learning how things came to be, how they have changed over time, and where they are going. To that end I wish to maintain an open dialogue between my house and the compact. And allow all those who wish to understand the 'plight' of the Thrall from those actually impacted by it to speak directly to those who serve in my household, they are completely free to speak openly and honestly about their own experiences. Let opinions be informed with first hand knowledge.

Thralldom was never the problem. It still isn't.

A norm of cruelty was. Injustice was. They still are.

Fortunately the Age of Cruelty in the Mourning Isles died with the sadistic old serpant. A new age is awakening.

We fall. We rise.
