Titles: the Archlector of Lagoma

Description: Tall and slim, with a sheet of shining black hair that falls loose to the middle of his back, Roran frequently binds his hair in braids. There's a hint of the androgynous to his looks that the length of his glossy hair only emphasizes. His skin is light reddish brown with undertones of copper and cherrywood; his eyes are bright and black, obsidian and starlight. His bone structure is strong and sharp, the planes of his face all angles. His cheekbones are so sharp you could cut yourself; his jaw is long and narrow, his lips full and mobile. His eyebrows are very thick. He is often animated, so that they leap about his face even as he leaps about a room.

Personality: Roran is a challenging person. He is warm and kind and compassionate, but it is a hard kind of compassion. He takes the hard road in life and in conversation, and expects others to do the same. Inner fears are for embracing. Inner demons are for quashing. He has little patience for emotional cowardice in himself or other people. This informs every area of his life. A savvy listener and a quick-minded, intelligent speaker, he is a spirited advocate for personal change who seems highly suited to his role in Lagoma's shrine. He cares passionately and irrevocably about people, and it seems as though his well of interest for the problems of others will simply never run dry. Also, if there is anything he loves more than people, it is cats. He loves cats.

Background: Roran was the son of a Devotion of Limerance who traveled as a minstrel throughout the Crownlands, the Oathlands and the Lyceum while he was growing up. She sang and harped for her money, and sometimes wintered at house and provided teaching and storytelling services during the winter. Roran learned to make new friends quickly and not to regret it too hard when he left them behind, for a new friend today -- as his mother would always say -- is an old friend three years from now. He learned to play and sing and tell stories, and for a time he was kind of a cross between his mother's roadie and her very young hype man.

When he was 17, his world inverted when his mother died due to some unfortunate confusion during a fight of the Tor-Southport war, and Roran found himself adrift with a harp, a backpack full of sheet music, and little desire left in him to play. It was the Faith that took him in, and to the Faith that he devoted himself. As a priest, he developed a knack for working with people, his strength always in the one-on-ones, and for caring about people, individually and as a whole. His adaptability and his willingness to embrace change came from his wandering life from before he was a priest, but also made him feel the call of Lagoma closest to his heart, and it was always to her discipleship he was the most drawn. His recent accession to the Archlector's post has made him hopeful for the future of the Faith. Surely he can help to change things for the better.
